What's the Point ?

Real great vid. Graffeti meets social experiment.

Sometimes society just sucks. This is really interesting, you can read more about the "experiment" here.

Oompa Loompa Song

By some of the girls in the CPIT X-Stream-Team during an exercise for our digital class.
It provided laughs!

blogging for the sake of a blog

And an illustration rant in the process...

Here are some conceptual colour studies for my last illustration assignment.
They were my 1st attempt at digital rendering in photoshop.

The next is my final image for a double page spread. I didn't leave myself time to refine the image or to render it to a better standard. Am annoyed at myself for this as i am not satisfied with the final image.

I plan to have another go at rendering this image during the holidays as i enjoyed the process of colouring through photoshop and would like to have a further attempt at it.

I am not continuing illustration through to the 2nd year of my course as i do not have enough credit space for another elective. I have chosen to continue photography instead, as i believe illustration is a skill which i will be able to develop myself, rather than studio photography which has to be taught.

During high school i illustrated a couple of children's books for a local author. My drawing and rendering skills have already developed significantly since drawing them. When i look back at the images i now think of what a better job i would be able to do of them. Some aspects of the original illustrations make me cringe....
But because i'm a sharing person, here is a small selection of some of the better pages;

It would be interesting to have another attempt at these illustrations using digital media.

One day...

Despite wanting to become an illustrator since i was seven i now expect it to make a better hobby than a career.

sunny sunday

Just thought id make use of this blog and jot down some ideas for my latest photography assignment.

One part to the assignment is to create an image based on the work of a well known photographer. I have chosen my all time favourite artist Cleo Sullivan

As you can see her work is fun and quirky, but always intriguing. I think it has a modern edge to it which usually leaves the viewer eager to see more. I first stumbled on her work in 2007 through one of my favorite design websites Fun Forever.

My first response to her work was through my year 13 photography boards. Photography wasn't a taught subject at my school but along with another design inclined friend we convinced our art teacher to let us complete and submit the boards. The process was fully independent. After tracking down and teaching myself to use a DSLR i got stuck in and had alot of fun.

I brought in aspects of other photography trends such as Dress Trashing and afew colour editing techniques from my own experience.

My first models were the neighbors kids. Cuties! They had a blast posing for me while i babysat them. They did a really good job, i was lucky to get to work with them.

And in this photo i asked miss G if she could pull a scared face. She didn't half achieve it! And she's only three, how fun.
oooOOh im scared

During another shoot i had the pretty miss A (age 7) wear my old flower girl dress while she came to my place and posed in our garden and orchard. Being a girlie girl she loved the pampering. It was a really nice sunny winter day for it as well.

Colour experimenting

The natural sunlight bouncing off the trees in this image created some really nice lighting while i had my younger sister (12) pose fore further pictures.

She posed for a variety of really expressive pictures. I really like how a couple of them turned out.

Some studio style pictures, also featuring my fantastic pet magpie Ludki:

And suddenly when it came time to take my final shoot spring had kicked in. This was something i hadn't taken into consideration and the foliage became quite dominating in many of the images.

Lost Identity

I would like to take aspects of the previous images and develop them for my 2nd response to the photography of Cleo Sullivan. However this time instead of bringing in the influences of dress trashing i wish to experiment with some photoshopping techniques in order to achieve a Celebrity Doll affect.
